Photograph of Dorothy FatunmbiHello, and thank you for stopping by my page! I’m an artist with a love for the sciences. It all started with a research trip to collect bird-banding data at the Shoals Marine Laboratory. I was part of a team that analyzed the stopover ecology of small migrating birds.

During one of our trips, I learned about a biological illustration course being taught just up the hill from our bird-banding station. I looked into the course and signed up to take it the following year.

It was during that course that I changed my career path from pre-veterinary medicine to medical Illustration! I had never felt so impossibly thrilled while drawing in my whole life! After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Biology, I entered the Biomedical Visualization program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There, I received my Master’s degree in Biomedical Visualization.

I think the life sciences are incredibly exciting and hope to convey that delight and appreciation in my work. I hope you enjoy my illustrations! If you would like to work together or license an image, please contact me at dorothy.fatunmbi(at)gmail.com.

  1. Hello Dorrie!
I’m also a medical illustration student, and I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions? My latest assignment for school is to find another artist in my field, do some research on them, and try to understand their creative processes. I really admire your work and I was hoping I could pick your brain:)

  2. Hello Dorothy,

I am intrigued by your work and happen to be interested in the field of medical illustration. I stumbled upon your wordpress after looking at the 2014 Salon Winners on the AMI webpage.

I am a senior undergraduate student at DePaul University studying health sciences. I was wondering if you could tell me about your experience with the program at UIC and about your undergraduate experience and what you majored in/were passionate about that led you to your career and lifestyle? How did you decide on medical illustration?

  3. Hi, Philiagraph.
